Hey! We're Ryo and Nik, co-founders of Topic.
We've been friends, co-workers, and co-founders for the past 8 years.
In 2011, we met in the basement of a university library in Los Angeles. At the time, we were building a social bookmarking platform called Hypemarks, which we then pivoted to a B2B marketing technology company called TINT.
In the beginning, marketing was an enormous struggle for us. As new grads with no formal (or even informal) experience, we floundered.
We tried all the gimmicks, everything from virality loops to publicity stunts. All of these techniques provided exciting spikes, but the next day traffic would always fall to the same disappointing levels.
After months of trying to find an ingenious trick to growth, we decided to hit the books and self-study the basics of SEO and content marketing.
Countless hours of keyword research and writing high-quality content finally paid off we saw sustainable traffic and traction.
Our passion (and luck) panned out and between 2013-2017 we turned top positions in Google into a bootstrapped, sustainable business with millions in revenue, thousands of customers, and over 40 employees.
We sold the company in 2018 and then immediately started thinking about our next venture.
After seeing the enormous impact of high-quality content, it was clear what our next mission would be: Helping organizations produce better content.
But how do you produce "better" content?
Our principle is this: Write what they want to read.*
Our product simply puts the principle into practice, making it easier to craft content that's tailored to your audience.
So give it a try. We'd love to see your readers get more out of what you're writing.
